Prior
to joining Walden Amos Barzilay was Vice President
& General Manager, Content and Supplier Solutions
in Commerce One. Dr. Barzilay joined Commerce
One as part of Commerce One's acquisition of Mergent
Systems in January 2000. Dr. Barzilay was a co-founder,
chairman, and CEO of Mergent Systems, a business-to-business
e-commerce infrastructure start-up. Prior to Mergent,
Dr. Barzilay held a variety of senior management
positions including General Manager of C*ATS Software,
a leader in financial risk management applications,
and Worldwide Director of Industry Marketing at
Informix, focusing on data warehousing and vertical
markets including finance, manufacturing, retail
and telecommunications. Dr. Barzilay has an engineering
degree from the Technion in Israel and a M.B.A.
and Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. |

Andrew
began his career with the Yahoo! in 1998, as a
member of Yahoo’s early business development
team. Most recently he served as vice president
of Yahoo! Search, where he was responsible for
all business and operational aspects of Yahoo’s
consumer search business. Previously, as vice
president of business operations for the Yahoo!
Search and Marketplace Group, Andrew oversaw the
business planning and financial performance of
multiple Yahoo! businesses. Andrew also served
as vice president and general manager of Yahoo’s
Marketplace division, which includes Yahoo! Shopping,
Yahoo! Travel, Yahoo! Real Estate, and Yahoo!
Autos – all leading commerce sites in their
respective categories under his leadership.
As a member of the original operating team that
led the development Yahoo’s in-house search
technology, he also played a significant role
in the acquisition and integration of several
companies, including Inktomi, Overture, Alta Vista,
and FAST. In addition, he helped lead the acquisition
of Flickr, an important component of Yahoo’s
emerging community and social search strategy. |

Larsen has years of experience with venture-backed
technology companies. Most recently, he was chief
operating officer of Better Life Media, before
that he was CEO of security software company BigFix,
Inc., and before that, VP of business development
at Visage Mobile (as part of his tenure with St.
Paul Venture Capital). He has also held founder/executive
roles at Net Perceptions and CitySearch, and senior
management positions at Prodigy, AT&T, Open
Systems and Control Data Corporation. |

Louis
joined Google in June 2005 as a member of the
technical staff. In this role, he is leading an
infrastructure project. Previously, Louis was
an eBay Fellow, responsible for redesigning and
implementing the search back-end for eBay. He
ran the Advanced Technology Group, a small research
group inside the company, and initiated the "new
way to search" that eBay is currently deploying.
Louis has also held positions as CTO and VP of
Engineering for BigVine, a Kleiner-Perkins startup
that explored the idea of online barter. He is
perhaps best known as the Founder and CTO of an
early search engine, AltaVista, and the translation
site BabelFish. Louis earned his Ph.D. in Computer
Science and Mathematics from the University of
Paris at Orsay.

Dr.
Barney Pell is Founder and CEO of Powerset, a
VC-funded startup company building a transformative
consumer search engine based on natural language
processing. For over fifteen years, Dr. Pell,
(Ph.D. Computer science, Cambridge University
F1993) has pursued ground breaking technical and
commercial innovation in A.I. as a researcher,
research manager, business strategist and entrepreneur.
He spent 2005 as Entrepreneur in Residence at
Mayfield evaluating early to mid-stage IT and
knowledge based companies. Before joining Mayfield,
Dr. Pell worked for NASA Ames Research Center.
Between 1998 and 2002, Dr. Pell worked in technical
start-ups serving as Chief Strategist and Vice-President
of Business Development at StockMaster.com, a
provider of internet-based stock-market analysis
tools, and later Vice President of Strategy for
Whizbang! Labs, a provider of advanced text processing
and search engine software. |
